How to Clean Windows Without Streaks

Most home window cleaning attempts use paper towels or microfiber cloths in a circular motion — both of which redistribute residue rather than removing it.
Why Paper Towels and Newspaper Create Streaks
Paper towels leave lint fibers and push cleaning solution around rather than removing it. Newspaper works better than paper towels but leaves ink residue on frames and hands. Circular cleaning motion redistributes film rather than clearing it from the glass.
The Squeegee Method (What Professionals Use)
Apply cleaning solution generously with a scrubber or applicator. Pull the squeegee across the glass in overlapping horizontal strokes, wiping the blade dry on a clean cloth between each stroke. Finish by wiping the edges with a dry microfiber cloth.

If you don't want to invest in a squeegee: apply solution with one damp microfiber cloth, then immediately buff dry with a second completely dry microfiber cloth. Work in a figure-8 or straight vertical/horizontal strokes — not circular. This method works well for interior windows.
Hard Water Deposits on Windows
White chalky deposits from hard water (common in Salt Lake City) don't come off with standard glass cleaner. Use a 1:1 white vinegar solution applied and left to dwell for 5 minutes before scrubbing. For severe buildup, a CLR-type calcium remover or a fine steel wool pad (0000 grade) can address it without scratching.
